The workshop is designed to help couples explore relationship strengths and weaknesses. It helps couples understand what it takes to build a successful marriage and it will help with the development and practice of relationship skills to sustain a strong healthy marriage.

Building a Strong Marriage:
Many couples spend hours planning for their wedding day, but very little time planning for married life. Building a strong relationship will reap rewards for many years to come.

What is Marriage Preparation?
The Marriage Preparation Workshop is designed to provide understanding (evidence based) about the reasons why marriages succeed or fail. The workshop helps to promote and stimulate dialogue, deepen mutual understanding, elicit insight and plan for a lifetime together.

Who is this Workshop For?
This workshop is beneficial for couples of all ages whether engaged, contemplating marriage or have been married within the past year or two. The workshop helps develop a mutually satisfying relationship regardless of how long or how well you have known each other. Marriage Preparation Workshop is also recommended for second marriages.

What does the Workshop Cover?

Covenants, Contracts and Vows: “A New Beginning”
  • What will change after the wedding day?
  • What does it mean to stand in front of family and friends and make this commitment to each other?
  • What is the difference between a Contract and a Covenant?

As a couple you will have the opportunity to consider different types of marriage vows and discuss what you feel is important to promise each other as you start your “New Beginning”.

Your Relationship:
Designed to help provide the key skills and important understanding of:
  • The nature of emotional connection
  • Your patterns of resolving conflict
  • Ways to foster greater mutual respect, effective communication and lasting intimacy
  • The ability to listen and be heard in any conflict situation

These skills can be used immediately, as well as throughout your marriage, to help sustain a strong healthy marriage.

Weekend workshops take place from 7:00pm to 10:00pm on Friday and from 9:30am until 4:30pm on Saturday.
(Please note--lunch is not included on Saturday. You will be provided with enough time to have lunch at a nearby restaurant or you are welcome to bring your lunch.)

Mid-week workshops take place from 7:00pm to 10:00pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

Dress is casual and you will be supplied with all the workshop materials that you will need.

Workshop Fee:

The fee is $100/per couple.
Registration must be accompanied by payment for your place to be confirmed in the workshop.
Workshop Fees are refundable (less $5.00 administration fee) up to four weeks before your registered workshop commences.

About the Facilitators

Rev. Maya Landell BA, M.DIV is a United Church Minister at Innerkip-Eastwood Pastoral Charge, near Woodstock, Ontario. Maya, a recent newlywed, brings gifts of self-awareness and truth-telling, with openness and care. She is passionate about the work it takes in marriage to nurture love and pay attention to what our vows are saying when we make them.

Al Gayed MSW, RSW is a London-based psychotherapist in private practice. Al has worked with individuals, couples, families and groups since 1984 and has specialized training and a passion for supporting couples in achieving a vitalized and nurturing relationship. His practical approach and excellent presentation skills ensure that you will receive many effective tools to keep your marriage strong.
